Reginald P. Wilkins and Hallie Wilkins collection.

This collection consists of papers, maps, and photographs collected by Reginald and Hallie Wilkins. The material primarily documents the development of the Abrams Airport at Grand Ledge, Mich., and civil defense operations during W.W. II. Mr. Wilkins was the first instructor and air service operator at the Abrams Airport in Grand Ledge (ca. 1946). During W.W. II, he was a civilian flying instructor for the U.S. Army. Hallie Wilkins worked for the Michigan Dept. of Aeronautics in Lansing, Mich. The maps illustrate approved air routes for airplanes of various sizes (see map database for item level description). This collection includes 35mm negatives, b&w prints, and color slides. The prints are generally of poor quality; the slides images are of fairly good quality. The collection is divided into three series: civil air patrol documents (1939-53); aviation maps (1945-59); and photographs (1945-52).
